communiqué officiel:
Hi all,
it’s very important to us that you all appreciate that the decision to rest this years Outstanding achievement was made a long time ago and is not in anyway connected to the posts made by DM fans since September. We can see that some of you think that your posts may be related to the removal of this award. This is definitely not the case, the award show is worked on 12 months in advance and all these decisions take place way ahead of the show. Resting this award is only a trial and it may return in 2012.
Some users seem to feel cheated/mislead by the activity on this page. For anyone who's not aware, we haven't initiated any 'campaign' and fans (of all bands) have come to this page on their own accord. There's no problem with that at all... in fact that's exactly what this page is for! As we were only made aware of the decision to rest the award on Sunday 7th November we were unable to disclose this info any earlier. Had we been aware of this before hand we would have certainly let you know.
Once again, this decision is not related to any of the comments on this page and it doesn't relate to how the BRITs regard Depeche Mode either... they're a great band and there's no denying their success and influence throughout the world... taste is obviously personal, but as a collective we love all music!
There has been a lot of changes to next years show including artists in the voting academy, new trophy and collaboration with Vivienne, focus on the album format (to highlight artist body of work) – so this was not a decision in isolation. As always we will pass on your comments to the BRITs team…
We're sorry that some of this pages users feel disappointed and wish everyone's favourite artists (including DM) all the best!
